Sailors - Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.
High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.
The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.
Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.
A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.
Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.
Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
About the Artwork
Three caps ride the cream of the paper like buoys on slack water. Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell drew Sailors around 1915, the year Edinburgh emptied its young men toward the Royal Scots and the slate-gray fleet moored up the Firth of Forth.
The nearest man fills the lower right with a square sailor collar washed in pale buff, his shoulder one loaded stroke of black ink. Ahead of him a profile turns: rust-brown hair under a cap brim, nose and lip caught in four marks, an ear tinted flesh-toned.
The third sailor shrinks toward the left margin, trousers widening to a soft ochre bell. Nothing anchors them. No deck, no horizon, no Leith quay. The Scottish Colourist who painted Iona turquoise and the drawing rooms of Ainslie Place spends almost nothing here. Olive-tan wash. Umber shadow. Dry paper doing the work of daylight.
What stays is the queue itself, three men waiting shoulder behind shoulder, faces turned from the war about to take them far from home. But Cadell holds them loose on the page a little longer.
