About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.
High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.
The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.
Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.
A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.
Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.
Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
About the Artwork
Summer in the archipelago, and the light has gone chalky behind the pine trunks. A young seaman sits cross-legged on moss-green grass with one knee raised, shoulders squared toward a horizon the viewer never gets to see.
Hugo Backmansson painted this sailor in 1897, in a clearing of rust-barked pines above the Gulf of Finland, when a Finn in Imperial Russian Navy wool was an ordinary sight across the Grand Duchy. The cap tally runs gilt Cyrillic over black silk, a ship’s name he answered to. Below it: copper beard, sunburned cheekbone, a jaw set against the glare off the water.
Everything soft in him has been handed to the uniform. Navy flannel swallows the light whole. The sky-blue collar facing lifts like a hoisted pennant, and the striped undershirt keeps its small ladder of order at his throat. His hands lie heavy on one knee, scrubbed raw by rope.
Backmansson came out of Hamina’s cadet school and the St Petersburg Academy of Arts years before Manchuria made him a battle painter. In this Sailor art print the brush runs fast and wet, pines blocked in like masts. The sea stays a slate-blue rumor through the leaves.
