A fox tips forward, body arched in stylized motion, its slender muzzle set beneath the vast lotus crown. Ohara Koson renders fur in warm ochre washes, fading into pale underbelly tones, while the lotus leaf hovers like a kabuki headdress.
Each fold and vein of the plant radiates crisp geometry, contrasting the supple curves of the animal. Born from shin-hanga’s revival of ukiyo-e traditions, the work threads Meiji-Taishō anxieties about modernity with timeless themes of disguise, trickery, and natural spectacle.
Printed across the surface of this Samsung case, Koson’s image achieves new life: a protective shell echoing Japanese woodblock technique, elegant line control, and subtle humor. The fox, ever liminal, becomes both guardian and performer in your hand.
