Winter Moon at Toyamagahara - Kawase Hasui Art Print
Couldn't load pickup availability
Kawase Hasui carved Toyamagahara into a single frozen hour: three bare pines climbing a cobalt sky, their branches splitting the ivory moon into shards of winter light. This 1931 shin-hanga print belongs to the artist's celebrated series of Japanese night landscapes, printed under Watanabe Shozaburo's studio during the twilight years of Taisho-era woodblock craft.
Nothing moves. The pines stand like sentries around the moon's pale face. No footprints break the frost. Pine, water, and light hold the balance alone. Snow rimming the marsh grass in pale streaks. A still pool below holds the same graduated indigo wash as the sky above, trunk and post doubled in reflection. Small ember-toned lights prick the horizon where a distant village sleeps beneath low hills.
Hasui's night scenes drew Western collectors toward Japan's print revival for this stillness, a record of rural cold made permanent in woodblock ink. Toyamagahara keeps its silence, moon caught between branches, marsh holding its own mirrored sky.

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical
Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal
Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)
Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws
Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
