Nürnberg rumor walks here, riding backward logic, selling rain, blight, shipwreck, miscarried plans. The goat supplies the diabolical engine; the staff names the craft; the herb whispers poison; the pot simmers weather.
Northern Renaissance dread finds its costume and never returns it, leaving modern witches to inherit the pose, the stare, the trick of wind that disobeys motion.
