This is French academic painting at its most precise: linen-smooth glazing of flesh tones, the careful mapping of deltoid and clavicle, the golden apple suspended between fingers with the studied ease of a Rome-trained hand.
The Paris of Troy myth collapses into a single suspended second — judgment not yet rendered, war not yet born. Crimson drapery bleeds against dark foliage, a rust-red counterweight to the ivory torso, while the sheep dog in the murky foreground grounds the scene in the pastoral world Paris was about to abandon forever.
