About the Artwork
This iPhone case translates Carl Spitzweg’s The Bookworm into a pocket-sized archive, a reminder of the painter’s devotion to character studies of the eccentric. A solitary bibliophile stands mid-shelf, spectacles lifted, nose nearly pressed to the text.
His coat hangs heavy, his satchel bulges with already-claimed tomes, while yet another book rests precariously in his hand. Spitzweg, darling of Munich’s Romantic Biedermeier milieu, used warm ochres and muted shadows to stage this satire of learned obsession.
The stacked bindings, gilt lettering, and narrow laddered shelves become less backdrop than extension of the man himself: a human absorbed into paper, ink, and the flicker of candle-lit scholarship.
