Half a butterfly, all blaze—this is what happens when the Morpho gods spill their drink across a vermillion sky. The wings don’t rest—they flare. Each vein glistens like graphite dragged over velvet. The wing, a bruised imperial violet veined in rust and cobalt, seems too tender for the touch. Yet it clings with ferocity to the burnt orange behind it. Chasing the call of a rainforest sunset, waiting to swaddle the wings of this indigo celestial.
Christopher Johnson captures the very instant before vanishing: butterfly wing caught mid-fade, pigment grinding into air. The way the scales catch light feels volcanic: a shimmer mid-eruption. This is Lycaenidae not as taxonomy but tectonics. Cracked pigment, saturated edge, chaos frozen into form.
