Forever Devil's Auction - Charles H. Yale Art Print

Charles H. Yale’s Forever Devil’s Auction opens on a man who cannot put his troubles down. A moss-skinned devil rides his shoulders through a cavern of teal rock, one clawed fist knotted in ginger hair. The other hand dangles a paper lantern whose tangerine glow does all the lighting. Below, the man’s eyes roll upward. His mouth hangs open around a shout the ink never lets out.
Printed in 1899 by the Russell-Morgan shop of the U.S. Printing Co. in Cincinnati, this color lithograph sold seats for a touring spectacle extravaganza first staged in New York in 1867. Stone lithography gives the demon his chartreuse scales, the tattered apricot breeches their greasepaint warmth. The caption borrows Kipling’s freshest slogan, One “White Man’s Burden,” then shrinks an empire’s boast into a pantomime clown with a fiend on his neck.
Gilded Age slapstick meets Victorian stage devilry in this vintage theater poster art print. Nobody is winning. Hang it where the hallway narrows, and let the lantern swing ahead of whoever walks under it.

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical
Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal
Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)
Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws
Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
