Flock of Birds and a Torii Gate in a Pine Tree Forest - Ohara Koson Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.
High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.
The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.
Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.
A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.
Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.
Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
About the Artwork
Mist eats the forest from the back row forward in Ohara Koson's Flock of Birds and a Torii Gate in a Pine Tree Forest. Distant pine spires fade to pewter, then to nothing. Only the nearest tree keeps its color, a bottle green bristling with needle tufts that brush the umber torii gate at lower right.
Its upswept lintel peeks around the branches like a shrine keeper at a doorframe, its brown pillar sinking off the bottom of the page. A faint indigo bloom stains the needles beside it.
Above, a flock of birds scatters across silver-gray sky in loose commas of sumi ink. Three crows drop lower and closer with wings spread flat. Shinto lore makes the crow Yatagarasu a guide sent by the gods, and Koson's messengers seem to be scouting a route of their own.
Trained in Meiji-era kachō-e before shin-hanga made him famous, Koson learned to let emptiness carry weather. Here the weather waits. One crow banks toward the gate and the whole forest holds still to watch.
