​Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was an Italian-born artist who transformed the landscape of advertising in early 20th-century Paris. Without formal artistic training, he began his career as a caricaturist for satirical journals like Le Rire and L’Assiette au Beurre.

In 1899, he created his first poster for the newspaper Frou-Frou, marking the start of a prolific career in poster art . Rejecting the ornate Art Nouveau style, Cappiello introduced bold figures against dark backgrounds, a technique that made his work instantly recognizable and effective in capturing public attention.

Over his lifetime, he produced more than 530 posters for various products, including food, beverages, and theatrical events. His innovative approach earned him the title "father of modern advertising".
