Here, the acacia refuses botanical certainty. No full leaf reveals its symmetry; only petals shaped by memory, not taxonomy. Van Gogh’s brushwork abandons the soft lilt of season. He presses forward with a feral urgency, as if painting not flora, but the sensation of sunlight cracking through the fevered mind.
The wood stiffens like vertebrae bracing against collapse. Among this tangle, ochres and lavenders collide: not complementary, but oppositional—imbalance as intention. These are not blossoms for identification, but for reckoning. June, Auvers-sur-Oise. His last summer. The air may have smelled of locust flowers as he painted what flared behind his eyes.
