Framed Canvas Art FAQs

Materials, Finishes, Inks & Printing

What is the canvas finish?

Finely textured artist-grade cotton substrate. Offering a luxurious, matte finish that consistently reproduces image depth and detail with outstanding clarity.

Materials used for canvas art?
  1. High-definition artist-grade canvas.
  2. Neo pigment, water-based inks
  3. FSC® Certified European knotless pine for the canvas substrate support.
  4. FSC® Certified black satin laminate floating frame.
What printing inks are used?

Neo pigment, water-based inks that are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

These water-based inks contain enhanced light stabilisers, offering far more durability than dye-based inks and protecting the vibrancy of your prints for over 100 years in ideal conditions.

How is the canvas art printed?

Giclée printing: Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.

100+ years of color: Printed using a pro-lab process that helps your art stay bold & breathtaking for a lifetime with non-toxic, archival-grade inks.

How is the canvas art framed?

First, artist-grade 38mm canvas is stretched over a wooden substrate made from durable European knotless pine, which is milled with a curved profile to help minimise contact with the face of the canvas, preventing impression marks and surface cracking.

Each corner is then folded tightly over each edge of the substrate and fixed with staples. Using finger-jointed canvas frames to create corner tension and help resist warping. For larger sizes, wooden wedges are added to each corner, ensuring the canvas surface remains taut and allowing for easy re-stretching in future.

Finally, the simple addition of a black satin laminate wooden picture frame gives a completely different ‘look’ to your Giclée printed wall art. The thin frame sits approximately 5mm from the edge of the canvas helping to create a floating border.

What are the frame dimensions?
  • Depth from wall: 53mm
  • Face width (frame): 12mm
  • Face width (gap): 5mm
  • Base width: 32mm
  • Rebate depth: 40mm

Production & Ethics

Where is the art produced?

Every framed canvas you find on my store can be printed at labs across the USA, UK, EU & AUS. An international network that ensures your new treasure gets made as close to you as possible. Significantly reducing delivery times and carbon emissions from the print lab to your front door.

Is the art ethically made?

All my print lab partners around the world adhere to anti child labour and anti forced labour regulations. Providing safe and generous working environments for all staff. And each of the print labs I work with actively use renewable energy over grid electricity wherever possible.

The print labs also provide traceability for core raw materials from suppliers. And those suppliers are always screened for compliance with fair labor and sustainability standards.
